WORLD WAR II NON-FICTION

"The Forgotten Soldier" by Guy Sajer

This book recounts the experiences of a young German soldier on The Eastern Front during World War II. This is one of the best-written books I have ever read. It is so well written that at times I forgot I was reading an autobiography and not an exciting action-adventure novel. This book contains no political baggage, apologies, or remorse for the German cause. This book is about a young soldier and his comrades fight for survival against overwhelming odds. The book is fascinating from a historical perspective, describing events and life on The Eastern Front not well known to Westerners. A must read for anyone interested in the trials of a combat infantryman. I would love to read an accurate account of the Russian infantryman if one exists.
