WORLD WAR II FICTION

"To Kill the Leopard" by Theodore Taylor

This is an extremely well written work about the Merchant Marine operating in the Caribbean Sea and the American Atlantic Coast. This book has a goodly amount of historical information about the early days of the American anti-U-boat operations (or lack there of). The main character, Sully Jordan, goes through several exciting adventures while aboard merchant ships. The nemesis of the book is a particularly nasty and lethal German U-Boat with Leopards painted on the conning tower. I found this book enjoyable because so little is written about the Merchant Marine and the huge roll they played in the allied victory. Highly enjoyable. Theodore Taylor has written numerous other books.
