WORLD WAR II FICTION

"Los Alamos" by Joseph Kanon

The book takes place in the spring of 1945 when the first test of the atomic bomb is approaching. A security guard is found murdered and everything about the crime leads authorities to believe that it was unrelated to the Manhattan Project. But due to the secrecy surrounding the project, no chances can be taken. The main character, Michael Connolly is brought in by Army Intelligence to solve the case. But as Connolly gets deep into the investigation, he finds more than anyone expected. Mr. Kanon's first book is outstanding. It has a great plot and well developed characters. He paints excellent caricatures of Teller, Grove, and Oppenheimer. This is a great read with appeal to general audiences.
