WORLD WAR II FICTION

"Convoy North" By Philip McCutchan

Commodore John Mason Kemp must lead his convoy of much needed supplies for Russia through the North Sea to Archangel. Along the way, the convoy is subjected to attacks from the air, submarines, and surface ships. The battles are brief and violent. I haven't read many books about the Merchant Service and this one was definitely a good read. The main characters are engaging and the story moves right along. The book was not very "deep", but held my attention and I will read some of the others of Mr. McCutchan and hopefully they will be better. Not all the Douglas Reeman (Alexander Kent) books are that great. But when he is good, he is very good. I suspect the same for McCutchan.
