"Hungary as the Sea"

By Wilbur Smith

This is an enjoyable read about the salvage business and bulk shipping. There are many exciting moments as the main character, Nicolas Berg, fights to keep his salvage business solvent and fight against his nemesis Duncan Alexander. Duncan stole his wife and his position at Christie Marine, one of the world's largest shipping companies. Duncan has thrown the dice and risk all by building the world's largest supertanker. But he has also radically altered the original design and the new ship is not safe. He has taken an even greater chance by contracting to carry highly toxic crude oil, laden with cadmium. The book is a race to disaster with an explosive finale.

Wilbur Smith is a South African and has written many excellent books about the sea and history. Two of my favorites by him are; "The River God" a tale of ancient Egypt, and "Birds of Prey" about privateers in the 1600's. I highly recommend both of these books.
