KOREAN WAR NON-FICTION

"The Four Deuces: A Korean War Story" by C. S. Crawford

I found this book on the pile of bargain books at Crown and for $4.95, I decided what the heck. What A find! As a young Marine, Crawford finds himself as a replacement in a 4.2-inch mortar (four deuces) squad at the front lines. The war was near an end when he arrived and the front line units were mostly in holding positions. There was sniping, patrols, night probes, mortar and artillery attacks, as well as the important quest for survival. Crawford relates many interesting facts of life about front line soldiers. He also tells of many quite funny incidents as well as sad events. This is an intelligently written book, and well worth the read.
