FANTASY & SCIENCE FICTION
"The Fata Morgana" by Leo Frankowski
Treet is a young man that excels making specialized machines. But he has problems and his company goes bust. He and his best friend Adam Kulczyinski go venturing across the Pacific in a concrete sailing ship, and low and behold, they encounter a fierce storm and are beached on the mythical Western Isles. The islands are actually a group of bound islands formed of porous volcanic rock. The people of the Isles have hidden for hundreds of years and have had little contact with the outside world. On the Isles, Treet and Adam meet adventure and love. They also run afoul of the religious leaders and get into some real peril. How they solve their problems makes for an interesting read.
This book is fun and the information about
specialized machines is quite interesting
