Civil War - Fiction

"The Stonewall Brigade"  By Frank G. Slaughter

David Preston is a graduate of V.M.I. and the Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia. Preston has also studied medicine in Vienna and Austria as well as serving as a surgeon to Girabaldi's forces. As a union medical officer at the outbreak of the Civil War, he resigns his commission and joins the forces of Thomas T. Jackson at Harper's Ferry. Preston is assigned as a surgeon and is present with the Stonewall Brigade at every one of their major actions, including Bull Run, Antiedum, Gettysburg, and to the end at Appomatix.

The battle sequences in this book are good, but more interesting are the medical aspects. This book I found by accident and can only be found in used bookstores and at rare and used book dealers. Not a bad read and if you can find a copy at a reasonable price, grab it.
